Vlisco x Trevor Stuurman at the One Source Live Festival (SA)

On March 24, African multimedia artist Trevor Stuurman was one to grace the stage at the launch of the One Source Live festival. An all-day live event in Johannesburg with multiple stages, performances and collaborations powered by Absolut; to celebrate the transformative power of African creativity in music, fashion, art and photography and to change the way the world sees Africa. The event gathered (African) artists, including Stuurman, who made a photo booth during the festival where he shot images with looks using Vlisco fabrics.

Stuurman, who expresses his creativity via visual media such as film, fashion and photography, said the event was exciting because “it shows that Africa is no longer just the future; our time is happening right now.”  He named the collaboration, which was shaped through dialogues about the core message, ‘Teleporting Into Africa – Transported by Trevor Stuurman’, and describes it as follows:

“Where are we without the lines drawn in the sand that restrict us? Who can we become if we reimagined ourselves before distractions? Where would we visit if we wanted to communicate, collaborate and create? Why would we take flight? What time would we embark on this spiritual and creative conquest? The time is now. African time is the authentic time of journey. Let’s take a pit stop to the corners of our home. Take flight teleporting to a reimagined African realm.”

African realm (def) ~ A Kingdom of trailblazers, creators, storytellers and the custodians of Africa’s now, tomorrow and future. Teleport into Africa. Transport by Trevor Stuurman.
