“Friends have told me in the past: ‘You should make a career move now or it will be too late.” And I thought to myself: “But why would I? I’ve enjoyed working here for 18 years. I feel at home here – so why would I change?. I’m also enormously proud of the products we make. It is an amazing feeling to be part of a team making fabrics and clothing, which so many Africans adore. We all have a strong bond with the product, the company & with Africa. Actually, people feel very quickly at home at Vlisco. I truly would not wish for another job. Of course as a secretary to the management – in my case to 2 of the management team – I am extremely busy but that also makes it exciting. I have a lot of international contacts and my work has become quite diverse over the years with far more planning and organising. And to top all that I work with Africa - and I would not want to miss that for the world – just like most of the people who work here.”
