Identifying an Original Vlisco Fabric
Identifying an Authentic Vlisco Wax Hollandais
Being able to authenticate the fabric you own is essential. Vlisco has therefore devised several easy ways to recognise whether a fabric is a true original Vlisco piece. Follow the 5 steps below, or simply scan the QR code present on the label of your fabric.
Find our well-known sun on the fabric label and look for the iconic VVH crest, which stands for ‘Van Vlissingen Helmond’. The name ‘Vlisco’ is a combination of the family name ‘Vlissingen’ and ‘company’.
Compare the number on the selvedge of the fabric, to the number on the white label. If it is an authentic Vlisco fabric, these will the same numbers.
When we talk about the selvedge, we are referring to the white edge of the fabric.
On the top, look for the words VERITABLE WAX HOLLANDAIS VLISCO, while the selvedge on the bottom states GUARANTEED DUTCH WAX VLISCO.
Our unique craft process creates irregular dye lines and marks, so the selvedges are usually not a bright white colour.
All Vlisco fabrics are printed in Helmond, Holland, at our own factory. This is proudly stated in our PRINTED BY VLISCO IN HOLLAND statement, on the white label.
A Vlisco label can have either a holospot or a QR code.
5 a. Holospot
You can find a holospot on the top right of the label. Our holospots are only applied directly on to the label.
5 b. QR-code
When connected to the internet, you can scan the code with a QR scanner (Vlisco Verify Tool in the Vlisco app).
The scanner will tell whether the code scanned is from an authentic Vlisco fabric.

Being able to authenticate the fabric you own is essential. Vlisco has therefore devised several easy ways to recognise whether a fabric is a true original Vlisco piece. Follow the 5 steps below, or simply scan the QR code present on the label of your fabric.
This special green and gold label on the fabric should state: ‘GUARANTEED REAL DUTCH SUPER-WAX BLOCK PRINTS – PRINTED IN HOLLAND’.
Our well-known sun is always visible on the fabric label and shows the VVH crest in the middle.
Check that the design number on the edge of the fabric (the selvedge) matches the number in the white box on the green, rectangular label on the fabric.
When we talk about the selvedge, we are referring to the white edge of the fabric.
The top selvedge bears the words ‘VERITABLE WAX HOLLANDAIS VLISCO’, while the selvedge on the bottom states ‘GUARANTEED DUTCH WAX VLISCO’. On both sides the Vlisco sun is rising above the words.
The word SUPER-WAX is repeated twice per yard.
There are irregular dye lines and marks on the selvedge.
The selvedge, unless dyed a colour, is usually less bright white than many copies.
